The Supermarket who discovered years of "dead" files in a back room
A new manager who was taking up his post in one of the country's largest supermarkets discovered a room full of files, mostly past their destruction date. The files went back over several years. The new manager was extremely busy taking up the reins in his new job and certainly did not have the time to spend sorting out the problem himself.
He contacted Humphreys to see if we could help.
The Solution
We discussed the situation and together decided that the best solution was for Humphreys to take responsibility for dealing with the task. It was decided that we should start within 24 hours as the space was required to start filing records in the manager's new system.
The Humphreys team arrived on site and with the manager's guidance sorted the dead files from the current files, taking them off the shelves and double checking with the manager that they were cleared for destruction.
Once the files had been authorised for destruction they were loaded into secure wheeled shredding bins inside the supermarket and then onto our secure vehicle for return to our secure shredding facility. At no time were any files moved loose, or left unattended.
The files were tracked through to destruction and certificates issued.
The Result
The manager was safe in the knowledge that the task had been accomplished quickly and efficiently while meeting his company’s requirement for compliance. He was able to start his new archive management system within 48 hours with the minimum disruption to his store.
